On Bright Street

They happened all at once…

All these thoughts

Cop car, yoga conversation, coffee, sunshine

Nothing.

Bikers (The non-leather-wearing kind). Joggers. Expensively "dressed down" people discussing grad school plans after a yoga excursion while sipping coffee and on their phones.

Holy shit that car's nice.

My first thought

Holy fuck this street's safe.

My second thought…

Holy shit that car's nice

Holy fuck this street's safe

Damn the sun sure shines bright

Off that cop car's blue frames

Sip it all from coffee houses

"dressed down" in expensive blouses

Let's all go to grad school

Let's all do yoga at the pool

Watch that phone all by itself

In a world so god damn filled with wealth

I already know nobody wants it

They already have one that’s the fun bit

It doesn't feel like there's a fault

No indoctrination to this cult

But you can be sure I see a fissure

What the fuck is water? Is the admission

Wow.

The oasis isn't selfish for not sharing the water with the desert. Just lucky and made more beautiful by the contrast. Right?

But we aren't the oasis and elsewhere is not a desert and EVEN if it was, to paraphrase a powerful speaker, we don't know what the fuck water is anyways…

So holy shit this street's nice

God damn am I safe

Turn up the street lights

Jesus Christ my skin's white

We are anointed and above

Is it just all luck or God's love?

Is it just culture better made?

Is it from the sinner or the saved?

But at what point do we drown

To race ahead for NO crown

All to say we are the best

Left to question why are we depressed

I guess if you run fast enough

You don't see behind you, just the dust

You won't really mind a little blood

And probably can't hear what's all the fuss

So let's build up our damn walls

Segregate the neighborhoods and all

Let wealth be the number one thing

Let fear and comfort reign supreme

Now I'm a hypocrite at best

Fed entirely by things I protest

Only now learning what much of the world shows

Ever held to account for what we know

Or what we don't. Just like how the ignorant sinner goes to hell. I always hated that part, but our ignorance creates hell on earth. So maybe it's more justified than I ever could have imagined.
