Why did Bukowski say that?

He said it because when people

When they don't have all the distractions

When they're taken away from them

Or when they never had them

They start to look for something else

Without all the screens

Or sex

Or food

Or buying

Or security

You start to look for something else

And if you have the eyes for it

That's the "talent" he's talking about

You find it

But you have to look

And have the eyes

And remove the distractions

None of us have the strength to remove them ourselves

So you have to be "unlucky"

Luckily unlucky

Really

Really

You have to be bored enough to realize how unhappy you are

And that's all

And then for the first time in your whole life

You might start to concern yourself

With truth

Or at least it's crumbs

It's footprints

It's shadow

It's wake

Maybe never itself

But artistically close

And physically…

Well physically the closest we ever get to truth

Is right here

Why did Mary Poppins come?

Why do we tell stories?
